How do you handle Incomplete Rocks?
Mastering Incomplete Rocks: Four Buckets to Keep You on Track
As the end of the quarter approaches, it’s time to take a closer look at those incomplete rocks. Organizing them into four distinct categories can help you stay focused and ensure you’re ready for the next quarter. Let’s dive into these four buckets and how they can streamline your EOS® journey.
1. The New Rock
Sometimes, an incomplete rock simply needs more time. If there’s a significant amount of work left, it’s best to redefine what ‘done’ looks like and set it as a new rock for the next quarter. This way, you can maintain momentum and clarity for the upcoming 90 days.
2. The Quick Finish
For rocks that are nearly complete, it’s time to tie up those loose ends. Create a to-do item on your Level 10 Meeting™ list to ensure it gets finished within the next 14 days. This approach keeps your team accountable and focused on closing out tasks efficiently.
3. The Uncertain Rock
When you’re unsure about the relevance or priority of a rock, it’s crucial to add it to your issues list. Discuss it with your team to determine its importance and whether it should be addressed in the next quarter or placed on the long-term issues list for future consideration.
4. The Unnecessary Rock
Sometimes, priorities shift, and a rock becomes irrelevant. If a rock no longer aligns with your goals or was a misstep, it’s okay to delete it and move on. This flexibility allows your team to pivot and focus on what truly matters.
By categorizing your incomplete rocks, you can maintain clarity and focus, ensuring your team is always aligned with your vision. If you have other categories or strategies that work for you, we’d love to hear about them!
